It is with great sadness we announce that Al BԪַSandyBԪַ Brydges passed away peacefully on Saturday August 1st at the Royal Jubilee Hospital in Victoria, BC. Al was born in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario on April 30th, 1942 to the late Grant and Agnes (Baillie) Brydges of Manitoulin Island.
A retired Warrant Officer with the Royal Canadian Air Force, Al was stationed throughout Canada and in Lahr, Germany. In addition to proudly serving his country, he also enjoyed serving his countrymen as a bartender at various Warrant OfficersBԪַ and
SergeantsBԪַ Messes. After retirement, he went on to work with the Reserves as an instructor and then as a Commissionaire at 17 Wing, CFB Winnipeg. In 2009 Al settled in Victoria, BC, enjoying varied Commissionaire postings, including his last position as Evidence Custodian at National Investigative Services, CFB Esquimalt in 2015.
He will be dearly missed by his children; Jeffrey (Busan, Korea), Jason (Vancouver), Jennifer Kingston (Ryan) and his beloved Granddaughter, Eeva (Victoria).
Lovingly remembered by sisters Eloise Odber (Joe), Colleen Wasyliniuk (Eddy), Sharon McNaught (Robert) of Sault Ste. Marie and Brenda of British Columbia.
He was predeceased by siblings Doris Carter (Fred), Patricia Sharpe (Norm), Robert (Bob), Bruce, Ruby Mae and Gail Lidstone (Gary) of Sault Ste. Marie.
Of notable mention, his previous marriage to Val Brydges, nee Forssi, gave Al many years of happiness and he loved her and her family dearly.
His vocations and love of his family inspired Al to pen many poems that will live on in our hearts. His enthusiasm for family, friends and good food remain an inspiration to the lives he has touched.
A celebration of life, open to all, will be held on Saturday August 15th at the Royal Canadian Legion Prince Edward Branch in Langford, BC. 761 Station Avenue.
Remembrance ceremony from 12-1 pm. and drop-in
reception from 1-4 pm.
In lieu of flowers donations on AlBԪַs memory may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society.
