A potential wildfire near the Malahat section of the Trans-Canada Highway was reported to B.C. Wildfire Service Wednesday.
But officials from the Coastal Fire Centre confirmed it was a false alarm.
The fire was listed for a short time on B.C. Wildfire ServiceB´ÎÔª¹ÙÍøÍøÖ·™s online map that tracks active fires in the province, but no estimates of its size or control level were given.
Officials noted residents will sometimes call in if they suspect a fire could be burning or see smoke in an area. All of those reports are carefully checked and in this case, there was no active fire.

It has not been confirmed whether the report was related to an earlier incident on that section of highway. DriveBC reported a brief southbound closure at around noon Wednesday due to an incident roughly two kilometres north of Goldstream Provincial Park.
