A relatively quiet long-weekend for car crashes on the West Shore was preceded by a couple of notable incidents leading up to it.

Two Toyota trucks collided on Jacklin Road near the intersection of Rex Road at around 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday, May 16. The one truck was hit by the other as it turned left onto Jacklin off Rex. A third car received minor rear-end damage during the crash. There were no injuries and the road remained open while West Shore RCMP attended the scene and the vehicles were towed away.

At around 8:30 a.m. on Friday, May 18, emergency responders were called to the 2900 block of Sooke Road, near Awsworth Road, for a crash involving three cars.

A driver heading west in a green 2000 Chevrolet Malibu crossed the centre line and collided with a red 2006 Pontiac traveling east, RCMP said. A 2000 Honda Accord heading east was also hit.

The Pontiac ended up down an embankment with extensive damage. The other two cars ended up on the shoulder of the road.

The drivers of the first two vehicles involved in the crash were taken by ambulance to hospital. The driver of the Malibu had a broken wrist and facial lacerations. All other injuries were minor.

Firefighters had to remove the two drivers from their vehicles. The jaws of life was needed to get one of the drivers out.

RCMP immediately ruled out alcohol as a factor. South Island Traffic members were called to investigate the crash. The exact cause of the accident is under investigation but the driver of the vehicle that crossed the centre line is being charged for failing to keep right. As well, the driver on another one of the vehicles is being charged for not having insurance.

Sooke Road was shut down for several hours in both directions while emergency services attended to the crash. Traffic was rerouted by way of Kangaroo and Happy Valley roads.

Over the weekend, RCMP said they only attended to minor incidents and the rain was likely factor in those.
