Victoria Youth Council warms hearts and stomachs with free soup in the square

Youth-driven, grassroots program works to create positive impact in Victoria

The City of Victoria Youth Council spent Tuesday evening spreading holiday cheer, bundled up in jackets and smiles, passing out free soup and buns in Centennial Square.

B次元官网网址淲e collaborate on initiatives to create positive change in Victoria and the surrounding communities,B次元官网网址 said Emma-Jane Burian as she offered up a bowl of turkey soup.

VictoriaB次元官网网址檚 City Council approved the establishment of the City of Victoria Youth Council in 2005.

The youth-driven, grassroots program, emphasizing leadership and skill development to help youth access City Hall, meets once a week at the Quadra Village Community Centre.

The group, made up of students from a variety of schools around Greater Victoria, are drawn together in their mutual desire to take action and raise awareness about issues important to youth.

Youth aged 14-24 who live, go to school, work or access services in the municipality of Victoria, who want to create positive change and make recommendations to the municipal government on behalf of youth are encouraged to get involved.
