Victoria is turning cold with increasing chances of snow, according to a weather alert issued by Environment Canada Friday.

While Victoria has been enjoying a relatively mild first half of winter, a transition to much colder conditions will begin Saturday night over the south coast of Vancouver Island.

RELATION:

Cold Arctic air is currently pushing southwards across the interior of the province and is expected to hit Victoria by early Sunday. The cold air will stay into the latter half of next week.

Temperatures will be five to 10 degrees below seasonal averages, making for the coldest conditions seen this season.

ALSO READ:

Arctic outflow winds will create the potential for snow squalls reaching the eastern side of the Island on Sunday. These snow squalls tend to be localized but could produce significant snowfall for sections of eastern Vancouver Island.

Environment Canada recommends monitoring forecasts and alerts as there remains uncertainty with regards to the location and snowfall accumulations.
