A Victoria police officer is recovering after being assaulted with a weapon in the early morning hours of Sunday Nov. 12 at a private residence in Esquimalt.
Initially alone, the officer responded to a call of an unwanted person in the 1100-block of Lyall Street just after 4 a.m. The resident discovered a man on her back porch attempting to enter the home, and called 911.
When the officer arrived, he discovered the man at the back door of the residence and upon approaching him, was attacked. During the physical struggle that ensued, the officer was assaulted, and then assaulted again with a weapon.
The officer was called to the 1100-block of Lyall Street just after 4 am after a resident discovered a man attempting to get in the back door of the residence. When the officer approached the man, the man attacked him.

B次元官网网址淭he communication centre and the resident spoke [via the officerB次元官网网址檚 radio] and communicated that the officer was involved in the struggle and multiple officers then arrived on scene,B次元官网网址 said Victoria Police spokesman Bowen Osoko.
Despite his injuries, the officer was able to restrain the man until backup arrived. Osoko said the resident initially thought the man to be a stranger but later recognized him, though it is still unclear as to why the man was there.

The officer was taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries, treated and released, and is now recovering. The suspect will be charged with assaulting an officer and assaulting an officer with a weapon and is expected to appear in court later this month.
