Victoria police officers did not use unreasonable force in a 2017 apprehension that resulted in injuries to the person being arrested, the Independent Investigations Office of BC (IIOBC) has found.
On June 5, a 911 call was received concerning the mental health of an affected person (AP). Numerous officers attended and the individual was apprehended under the Mental Health Act. That person suffered broken ribs as well as pnuemothorax B次元官网网址 excess air between the lungs and chest wall B次元官网网址 during the apprehension.
The research for the IIOBC report used photographs, interviews and medical records to determine whether reasonable force was used.
B次元官网网址淣ot one of the witnesses, neither civilian nor police, suggested that excessive or unreasonable force was used to apprehend AP,B次元官网网址 concluded the report, B次元官网网址淎ll of the witnesses agreed that AP was unreasonably unco-operative with the police.B次元官网网址
The IIOBC did not recommend further charges in the matter.
