After a flight B´ÎÔª¹ÙÍøÍøÖ·“ and fight B´ÎÔª¹ÙÍøÍøÖ·“ with RCMP, a suspect who is being described as a "violent prolific offender" was apprehended in Highlands on Tuesday.
West Shore RCMP, responding to a call of a stolen 1996 green Jeep Cherokee, were led on a chase and search situation through Highlands Tuesday morning, which became afternoon before it was all over.
The vehicle was reported stolen from a residence on York Ridge Place in Highlands, and was spotted shortly after at the Co-Op gas station at the corner of Millstream Road and Treanor Avenue in Langford. When police attempted to intercept the vehicle and suspect, he evaded police and led them back into Highlands in a pursuit.
The vehicle evaded the police, at which point Saanich, Central Saanich and Sidney/North Saanich RCMP were called in to help locate the vehicle and suspect, which they did with the help of a police dog.
The suspect was subdued and apprehended on Ross Durrance Road in Highlands after a fight with a Sidney RCMP officer.
He was in possession of a loaded handgun at the time of his arrest.
UPDATE: "Violent prolific offender" arrested after Tuesday's pursuit and search in Highlands was Kenneth Johannes Donald Brens, 24. Brens is being charged with possession of a loaded restricted firearm, carrying a concealed weapon, theft of a vehicle, theft of a bicycle worth over $5,000, resisting arrest, assaulting a police officer and dangerous driving.
Brens was to come before the court Wednesday, but instead has been remanded into custody until an appearance next week.
