An ember from an open burn caused a small brush fire in Metchosin.
Metchosin Fire Chief Stephanie Dunlop said the department got a call around 4:30 p.m. Thursday that there was a fire near the Green Acres Golf Course.
The ember jumped onto an adjacent property and started a fire in the dry grass. The fire encompassed an area of about 1,200 square feet and Dunlop said with high winds Thursday, the fire was a road width away from reaching a house on the property.
She noted the fire could have spread quicker than it did if it wasnB次元官网网址檛 for the gravel roadway in between the fire and the house that acted as a natural fire break.
Fire crews closed part of Metchosin Road for a short time to put out the fire as the hydrant they needed was located across the street.
B次元官网网址淲e appreciated everyoneB次元官网网址檚 patience,B次元官网网址 Dunlop said.
Crews got to the blaze before there was any serious damage and no one was injured.
There is a ban on open burns in the District of Metchosin from June 1 until October.
