Despite wanting to allow more customers with bicycles to travel by bus, B.C. Transit buses won't be able to carry more than two bikes at a time.
Testing done on three different models of bike racks that hold up to three bikes revealed significant safety concerns. Driver sight lines were limited and bus headlights were obscured. Bike tires also extended beyond the width of the bus.
Installation of new racks on much of the fleet would cost between $244,000 and $338,000.
