Tower Point subdivision in Metchosin not a done deal yet

Metchosin council members wants more information on application

Metchosin council decided to wait for more details before giving the green light to a proposed subdivision of private land near Tower Point Park.

Despite going before council on Monday, the application is still open, said Coun. Bob Gramigna. Council is awaiting word from district staff that developer Ridley Brothers have satisfied a number of requirements before a completely informed decision can be made, he added.

"There is a fair bit of public interest in the Tower Point application," Gramigna said.

The approximately four hectares of private property adjacent to the Capital Regional District park is already zoned to allow subdivision. The proposal is to divide it into eight lots.

Metchosin resident Ken Farquharson, one of a number of interested parties seeking adjustments to the proposal, said he hopes to approach the CRD and the district offering different options for expanding the adjacent park to include the waterfront area.

"Those lands have been zoned for development for a long time and the community accepted they may be developed, that is not an issue for me," Farquharson said. "(But) I would like to see the waterfront, which lies on the east side of the subdivision, to be acquired and to be added to the park."
