Sooke fire hall is getting a facelift.

Work will begin on a $500,000 renovation of Sooke Fire Hall No. 1B次元官网网址檚 administrative area in February.

The project will fix deficiencies identified in a property condition assessment in 2020. These include occupational health and safety requirements and upgrades required to the sprinkler system, plumbing and the heating and ventilation system.

The renovation also includes a universally accessible washroom in the council chamber and upgrades to the Emergency Operations Centre and its technology, including first responder training facilities. The facilities will also allow space to provide emergency service public education sessions.

Original project costs were estimated at $700,000. The project is funded through the provincial COVID-19 Safe Restart Reserve Fund.

District communications coordinator Christina Moog said there is a $200,000 savings on the project due to creating a new staff position B次元官网网址� a carpenter-tradesperson B次元官网网址� and in-house project management.

The project will take appropriately six months to complete. However, given the pandemic, there is a possibility the supply chain may affect the timeline, Moog said.

A trailer will be used to temporarily house the fire departmentB次元官网网址檚 administrative staff, beginning Feb. 25.
