The West Shore Parkway extension project is about to reach another milestone.
Langford engineering director Michelle Mahovlich said segment 5 is expected to be completed by monthB次元官网网址檚 end.
B次元官网网址淚tB次元官网网址檒l be the first segment weB次元官网网址檝e completed,B次元官网网址 she said.
Segment 5, one of nine total in the project, is located within the Westhills neighbourhood and the construction contract was awarded to Windley Contracting. Work on this segment began in February.
As for the rest of the West Shore Parkway completion project, Mahovlich said segment 1 went out for tender, which closed Wednesday. The construction contract for segment 2 was awarded to Windley Contracting at the April 4 council meeting; the design portion had previously been awarded to On Point Project Engineers. Construction is expected to be completed in December.
As for segments 3 and 4, which Mahovlich said are the largest in terms of length and construction value, the tender closes on April 27, with council expected to award the contract in May. Construction for these segments is expected to be completed in the summer of 2017.
Segments 6, 7 and 9 are in the Westhills and Kettle Creek development area and include a railway crossing. That crossing could eventually be the determining factor in the projectB次元官网网址檚 timeline as the required signal arms take approximately one year to manufacture and deliver. This portion is expected to go to tender in June.
Mahovlich noted the City does not have an estimated completion date for these segments, but her best estimate would be early 2018.
Segment 8, which includes a dual left turn lane on the Trans Canada Highway, is expected to go to tender on May 16, with a closing date of June 6.
B次元官网网址淲e anticipate starting construction on the TCH in late June/early July,B次元官网网址 she said. But she noted the City would do its best to have this segment completed by December, so crews would not be working on the highway when construction of the McKenzie Road interchange starts.
The Parkway project is estimated to cost $22.5 million.
As for other roadwork underway in Langford, the Leigh Road and Goldstream Avenue intersection alignment project is progressing. The closure of Donna Avenue at Leigh Road, with a permanent connection being made between Donna Avenue and Hartsdale Drive is nearly complete.
The general construction tender for the intersection re-alignment closes May 2. This project is still on track to be completed in August, before the start of the new school year, Mahovlich said.
More work on Leigh Road will see it extended south from Dunford Avenue to connect with Henry Eng Place, currently a dead end. However, Leigh Road will not cross the railway tracks and the timeline for that crossing is unknown.
This work is being paid for by the Westhills Land Corporation as part of their rezoning commitments to the City. The construction contract has been awarded to Scansa Construction and is also expected to be completed in August.
While Mahovlich said they would complete all of these projects ahead of schedule where possible, she noted the extension of Leigh Road should help alleviate some of the truck traffic in the area.
The tender for the Atkins Avenue bike lane project also closes today (April 13).
