Blackberry festival celebrates summer berry with food and fun

Elinor Creasser a volunteer of the Blackberry Festival of St. Mary of the Incarnation Church shows off some blackberry jelly. The church is selling 160 frozen pies and serving blackberry tea and jelly with baked goods.

Picking, freezing, baking and eating; which ever way you do it blackberries are meant to be celebrated.

St. Mary of the Incarnation church is hosting its own blackberry festival this Saturday, Sept. 29.

All the blackberries were specially picked for the festival.

B次元官网网址淲e picked them in secret stashes and private patches,B次元官网网址 said festival co-ordinator Diane Hutchison.

All in all more than 50 buckets of berries were used to make 160 pies and other baked goods and jellies and cordial (a liqueur).

The festival is a fundraiser for the church and proceeds from the event will go towards community outreach.

 

The blackberry festival is on Sept. 29 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. At St. Mary of the Incarnation church at 4125 Metchosin Rd.
