Allan Dwayne Schoenborn will remain in custody in B.C. after the province's Criminal Justice Branch rejected his bid to be transferred to a forensic psychiatric facility in Manitoba.

Schoenborn has been held at Forensic Psychiatric Hospital in Port Coquitlam since being found not criminally responsible in 2010 for killing his three children in Merritt in April 2008. Schoenborn applied for the transfer in February, during his annual appearance before a medical review board, so he could be closer to family members.

After the February hearing, the review board issued a decision that it "had no difficulty concluding that the evidence continues to show that the accused remains a significant threat," and that he should "remain in hospital both for public protection as well as treatment."

The review board recommended consent to the transfer, which must also be approved by the Attorney General's ministries of both provinces. The B.C. ministry reviewed the case and determined public safety is better served if he stays where he is.
