A homeowner on the 3000-block of Leigh Road in Langford awoke early Saturday morning to what he thought was his puppy whining to go outside. Instead, what he found was a 20-year-old man in black in his living room.
After yelling at the man to get out of his home, a struggle ensued, which saw the homeowner subdue the intruder while awaiting police.
"While we do not encourage the public to take matters into their own hands," says Const. Alex Berube of the West Shore RCMP, "we praise the swift actions of the homeowner."
The homeowners were not harmed during the ordeal, and the suspect's motive is unknown at this time.
"We would like to remind the public to keep their doors and windows locked at night to prevent such incidents," Berube said.
Anyone with information are being asked to contact the West Shore RCMP detachment at 250-474-2264 or CrimeStoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (6477).
