Whether sheB次元官网网址檚 slowing down speeders or checking on the elderly, Donna Ensor is doing her part to make the community a safer place.
Ensor has volunteered at the West Shore RCMP detachment for more than 10 years.
She was recognized for her efforts by the Ministry of Justice with a community safety and crime prevention award.
B次元官网网址淲hat I do is something I like to do, I like helping people,B次元官网网址 Ensor said. B次元官网网址淚B次元官网网址檝e never looked for an award, I like to be the one hiding behind the corner.B次元官网网址
At the detachment Ensor volunteers where ever she can. She helps co-ordinate the volunteers for the Keep in Touch program. The program has 37 seniors signed up who receive almost daily phone calls from Ensor and other volunteers.
If the seniors arenB次元官网网址檛 able to be reached, a family member or RCMP officer is called to check in on them.
ItB次元官网网址檚 not uncommon for Ensor to start her shift early so she can spend a few more minutes on the phone with the chatty clients.
When not on the phone, Ensor is out on the streets with the Speed Watch program counting cars and reporting speeders to the RCMP.
B次元官网网址淚t surprises me how many people are racing through a school zone,B次元官网网址 Ensor said.
She also helps with other RCMP initiatives including garage sales, pancake breakfasts and Halloween festivities.
B次元官网网址淚 knew we had a deserving candidate, Donna jumps at the chance to help,B次元官网网址 said acting Sgt. Kathy Rochlitz, who nominated Ensor.
B次元官网网址淲e are very fortunate to have a lot of volunteers who do a lot of work for us. Our volunteers help make our work easier.B次元官网网址
