Area municipalities may be looking at applying for grant money to build and expand cycling lanes, trails and paths, after the province announced the availability of $6 million in BikeBC grants. Local governments must submit proposals before May 15 that describe how projects will benefit communities, contribute to increased physical activity and healthy living as part of active community plans, and increase cycling tourism.

The province will invest $18 million during the next three years through the BikeBC cost-sharing program to assist local governments with projects that attract and support commuter, recreational and tourism cyclists and pedestrians.
