Prostate cancer fundraiser draws hundreds of supporters

Father's Day walk for prostate cancer gets large turnout

More than 500 people laced up their sneakers for the annual Safeway Father's Day Walk/Run for Prostate Cancer at Royal Roads University.

The fundraiser on June 19 brought out 125 volunteers, 32 teams of relatives, friends and co-workers, and generated more than $85,000 in support of the non-profit Prostate Centre's programs and services.

One in six Canadian men will be diagnosed with prostate cancer in their lifetime, and more than 4,500 Canadian men will die from the disease this year, said Leanne Kopp, executive director of The Prostate Centre.
