Approximately 1.2 million Dodge Ram pickups are being recalled in North America by Fiat Chrysler.

The recall is due to a software problem that could prevent side air bags and seat belts from working properly in a rollover.

According to a statement on the Fiat Chrysler website, the U.S. division of the company is aware of one death, two injuries and two crashes that may have been related to the problem.

The recall includes some 2013 to 2016 Ram 1500 and 2500 model pickups and some 2014 to 2016 Ram 3500 pickups. Of the roughly 1.2 million vehicles affected, approximately 216,000 are in Canada, 21,600 in Mexico and 21,500 are outside of the NAFTA region.

The company is warning that after some of its trucks are exposed to a significant underside impact, the computer may incorrectly determine a sensor has failed and temporally disable the side air bag and seat belt pretensioner. Turning the vehicle off and then back on should restore the disable features.

The recall is expected to begin in late June and the company plans to reprogram the software in affected vehicles free of charge.
