Plans to shift transit governance progressing

Members of the Victoria Regional Transit Commission, who are provincially appointed, have long complained the governing body lacks representation since it is comprised of leaders from five of 13 municipalities in the region.

Plans to axe the Victoria Regional Transit Commission and put regional transit and transportation planning in the hands of the Capital Regional District are moving forward.

To help make that happen, CRD board chair Geoff Young and View Royal Mayor Graham Hill, who chairs the CRDB次元官网网址檚 planning, transportation and protective services committee, hope to have a meeting with the minister of Transportation and Infrastructure later this month.

Hill and Young plan to ask Blair Lekstrom about changing legislation that would allow the CRD to govern transit.

In the meantime, CRD staff will spend the summer developing the new governance model before submitting a report to the CRDB次元官网网址檚 transportation committee in September.
