The Saanich Fire Department says they are investigating a residential fire that left one person dead in Saanich over the weekend.

On Sunday, Dec. 29, around 20 firefighters and seven vehicles responded to a condo building on the 3100 block of Tillicum Road, across from Tillicum Mall, where the fire was contained to one unit.

"There was a patient found by the initial crews, and we provided medical care until the ambulance arrived," said SFD Deputy Chief Trevor Stubbings.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
