A new set of gates are installed at the Churchill Drive entrance to Mount Douglas Park.

The Friends of Mount Douglas Society lead the project in partnership with Saanich Parks, which paid for the gates with money that was budgeted about six years ago.

The oak leaf-shaped gates are the last of a series of upgrades to the Mount Douglas Park entrance which were installed in the fall of 2012.

B次元官网网址淲e are proud that the gates have a gap where pedestrians and cyclists can pass through [during the mornings],B次元官网网址 said Darrell Wick, president of the Friends of Mount Doug.

The gates replace an industrial style swing gate that is now removed.

Next, Saanich will install a trio of circular and semi-circular thresholds into the pavement of the Churchill entrance. The B次元官网网址渢hresholdsB次元官网网址 are made of slightly rough paving stones, which will alert drivers as they approach kiosk and the gate.

One of them marks metre zero of the Churchill Drive as every 250 metres up the drive are marked by a stone, part of the 1,500-metre climb known called the Churchill Challenge.
