Monday start likely for SD62 schools if deal ratified

Cleaning up after lengthy strike a large task for district

With teachers voting today ratify or reject a tentative deal to resolve the labour dispute and end the strike, students may well be back in classrooms Monday morning.

Sooke School District superintendent Jim Cambridge said Wednesday the plan is to make the first day back as normal a day as possible.

B次元官网网址淥ur plan is to open as if it were the first day of September,B次元官网网址 he said.

Unlike their neighbouring district for Greater Victoria, which has had to postpone a scheduled Pro-D day for Sept. 22, SD62B次元官网网址檚 professional development day would have been this past Monday, so it should be business as usual.

A yes vote by teachers would see board of education trustees meeting sometime before the end of the day Friday to ratify the deal. Agreement from all sides would secure an end to the strike thatB次元官网网址檚 been disrupting students since the middle of June.

B次元官网网址淚tB次元官网网址檚 likely that boards will approve it,B次元官网网址 said Cambridge.

All students would go back for a half day on Monday and each school will have its own startup hours and schedule from Tuesday on. Schools will have their individual schedule information posted on their websites.
