Many people carry a cell phone with them at all times and others still have one in case of an emergency. But when should the phone be put away and when should it be left at home?

At least one school in Greater Victoria believes cellphones should no longer be brought onto school property and should be left at home during school hours.

Central Middle School has decided to implement a new rule for 2017-2018 school year beginning in September that would ban students from bringing cell phones or internet connected iPods to school.

ItB次元官网网址檚 a first for the Greater Victoria School District after CentralB次元官网网址檚 principal, Christopher Macintosh, recently sent a letter home to parents. And as expected, the reaction has been mixed.

Some parents feel cell phone usage by teens can be a distraction and takes away from learning while at school. Others point to problems that could arise without this popular form of communication with parent and child.

Current policy at the school allows students to have personal electronic devices (PEDs), but are only for classroom use when a teacher has given permission to use them.
