A 33-year-old Metchosin woman attracted some unwanted police attention Saturday as she yakked away on her cellphone while driving.
Victoria police began following her Ford Explorer down Douglas Street, just before 2 a.m.
"She turned against a red light and then drove through a second red light," Victoria police spokesperson Mike Tucker said in a statement.
After pulling her vehicle over, police smelled alcohol on the driver's breath. She then admitted to consuming several alcoholic beverages earlier in the evening, police say.
She was slapped with a 24-hour driving suspension and had her car towed. She was also fined a total of $518 for using an electronic device while driving, disobeying a traffic signal and not displaying her new driver sticker.
