Malahat closed due to fatal crash

RCMP are investigating three-vehicle collision near Aspen Road on the Trans Canada Highway

Transportation Minister Todd Stone says more barriers are needed on the Malahat.

His comments come in the wake of a three-vehicle collision on the Trans-Canada Highway that left a 33-year-old Saanich man dead and two others seriously injured Wednesday morning.

The crash took place just before 7 a.m. in the 4200-block, near Aspen Road resulting in closures between Goldstream Park and Shawnigan Lake Road until just before noon.

Stone told media that plans are underway to install more safety barriers on sections of the Malahat, which has already undergone significant safety improvements in recent years.

RCMP South Island Traffic Services and a traffic analyst were called to assist with the investigation.
