Child and family services advocate Mitzi Dean was officially declared this week as the heir apparent to three-term NDP MLA Maurine Karagianis in Esquimalt-Metchosin.

Dean, best known as the executive director for the Pacific Centre Family Services Association on Wale Road in Colwood, was acclaimed as candidate when no one else stepped forward in time to file their intention with the party.

NDP leader John Horgan, who is running again in Langford-Juan de Fuca, wholeheartedly endorsed Dean on Sunday. The B.C. Liberals will soon declare Cathy Noel their candidate to run against Horgan, but have yet to declare a candidate in Esquimalt-Metchosin.
