Latest wind storm in Greater Victoria produces wind chime noise complaint

VicPD peels back layers on ongoing neighbour dispute in Fairfield

Victoria police responded to reports of wind damage, power outages and noisy wind chimes during the most recent bout of blustery weather.

After peeling back the layers of a Fairfield resident's complaint about two foot-long wind chimes on Tuesday around 1 a.m., the investigating officer "... discovered that this call was probably in relation to an ongoing neighbour dispute, which included the cutting down of a tree on the property line some months earlier," Victoria Deputy Chief of Police John Ducker said on the department's online operations blog.

"The complainant feels that the chimes were hung directly adjacent to the bedroom window in order to be annoying, but agreed that there was no enforcement action to be taken here," Ducker said.

The case was referred to Victoria's bylaw enforcement office.
