Langford received a funding boost to its plan to revitalize Station Avenue, after being given $25,000 to spend on three interactive mural and lighting installations by the THRIVE small capital program.

The installations will feature a singing tree, an interactive drum organ and an immersive tunnel. The singing tree will be put up in an oak tree along Station Avenue.

The plan is to turn the area into a B次元官网网址渃ultural precinct,B次元官网网址 according to Langford Mayor Stew Young, with artist pop-ups, business stands, food trucks with al fresco dining options, entertainment on a performance stage, a restored train station and a fenced dog park also part of the vision.

The THRIVE small capital program is an initiative of the Island Coastal Economic Trust, designed to help drive vitality into downtown areas, main streets and business districts by helping fund small-scale capital projects.

The City of Langford will soon be starting a request for proposals process to design three murals which will be installed on the back of three business incubator sea cans facing the E&N Rail Trail. Other lighting and art installations will be considered once Langford hears back from other grant applications, a city spokesperson said.

The project will open in early spring, with a final date still being determined.

The area had previously been used as overflow parking for the Langford Legion across the street, which is regularly low on available parking space.

Legion president Norm Scott said they are supportive of the cityB次元官网网址檚 plans, so long as they have B次元官网网址渢he LegionB次元官网网址檚 interests in mind.B次元官网网址
