West Shore RCMP interrupted an apparent drug-running operation in a raid Wednesday evening in Langford.
Police arrested two Langford men and seized a number of handguns, ammunition and a quantity of cocaine and drug paraphernalia in a raid on a home i the 2700-block of Wenger Tce.
The execution of a search warrant on the home was the culmination of a firearms investigation by the detachment's street crime unit. The search also found various drug paraphernalia, body armour, bear spray and a considerable amount of ammunition, said West Shore RCMP spokesperson Const. Alex Berube.
Of the two men, one was scheduled to appear in court today (Feb. 26) to face drugs and firearms-related charges at Western Communities Courthouse in Colwood. The other suspect was released without charge on his own recognizance.
"Based on what was seized and the evidence at the scene, that would lead us to believe this was for the purpose of trafficking," Berube said of the quantity of cocaine found.
As to the presence of guns, ammunition and body armour, he added, removing these type of items can only positively impact the safety of West Shore communities.
Information from the raid will be shared with other local police agencies as a way of potentially helping with other regional investigations, Berube said. Anyone with further information about this case may contact West Shore RCMP at 250-474-2264 or CrimeStoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS.
