Langford isnB次元官网网址檛 going to be helping Colwood and Highlands pay their part of The Q CentreB次元官网网址檚 debt servicing costs any more.
During MondayB次元官网网址檚 meeting, Langford council was reminded that for the past 10 years the city has been paying $96,440 to Colwood and $13,172 to Highlands out of LangfordB次元官网网址檚 casino revenue to cover the smaller municipalitiesB次元官网网址� portion of the debt assumed when the former Bear Mountain Arena was built.
Given the options of staying the course or ending the practice, council chose the latter.
B次元官网网址淲e felt that since weB次元官网网址檝e been paying that for 10 years, and we have, like, $30 million worth of facilities or something here in Langford now that we paid for ourselves, weB次元官网网址檇 stop doing that,B次元官网网址� said Langford Coun. Lanny Seaton, who also chairs the cityB次元官网网址檚 parks, recreation, culture and beautification committee.
B次元官网网址淚tB次元官网网址檚 not that weB次元官网网址檙e not paying into The Q Centre anymore, weB次元官网网址檙e just not helping Colwood and Highlands cover their share anymore.B次元官网网址�
When asked if ceasing payment was an arrangement between the municipalities, Seaton said simply, B次元官网网址淚t was just a decision that (Langford) council made.B次元官网网址�
When asked if Colwood and Highlands knew that these payments were about to stop coming, he replied, B次元官网网址淚 guess they will now.B次元官网网址�
Rob Martin, board chair for the West Shore Parks and Recreation Society and a Colwood city councillor, says the decision caught him off guard, but itB次元官网网址檚 nothing they wonB次元官网网址檛 be able to deal with.
B次元官网网址淚n 2003 (Colwood) just didnB次元官网网址檛 have the borrowing capacity to take on the debt required to construct The Q Centre, so Langford stepped up at the time, and I guess theyB次元官网网址檙e done with that. At the end of the day, itB次元官网网址檚 just a matter of making sure that everyone feels they are being treated properly, so weB次元官网网址檒l just have to continue to work towards that,B次元官网网址� he said.
Martin says the decision wonB次元官网网址檛 have any effect on West Shore Parks and Recreation or the operation of The Q Centre.
