Addresses missed in public hearing notice process
At MondayB次元官网网址檚 meeting, Langford council voted to rescind the second and third readings of a bylaw to rezone 3130 Jacklin Rd. from one and two family residential to medium density apartment.
In accordance with the Local Government Act, residents within 100 metres of the property were notified of a public hearing for the application but after the meeting it was brought to staffB次元官网网址檚 attention that several addresses were missed when notifications were sent to residents.
In a report, staff noted that the proposed rezoning for the property isnB次元官网网址檛 inconsistent with the official community plan, but there is some ambiguity in the wording. So staff recommended and council agreed to rescind second and third readings of the bylaw and provide public notice that council intends to waive the public hearing requirement, which is permitted under the Local Government Act.
Funds approved for Belmont dry grad celebrations
Belmont Secondary students were inadvertently missed for funding by the City of Langford even though the school made a formal request and it was included in the proposed 2017 budget.
For the past six years, the City has given Belmont Secondary $10,000 to put towards their dry graduation celebrations and students have volunteered their time to plant trees, shrubs and flowers in local parks and along roadways. Once the new school opened, these efforts were focused on HullB次元官网网址檚 Trail, a pathway between the new campus and Westshore Town Centre, including the Goudy Field area.
Council looked to fix the oversight at MondayB次元官网网址檚 meeting, and approved $10,000 being put towards BelmontB次元官网网址檚 2017 dry grad.
