Homeowner assaulted after interrupting B&E at his residence

Langford man injured after confronting thief stealing from his shed on Kangaroo Road

A man in his 60s was beat up and robbed after interrupting a break and enter on his Kangaroo Road property Saturday night.

The Langford man and his wife returned home late in the evening, and he went to lock up his shed for the night when he interrupted the would-be thief. The man went after the suspect, but was knocked down from behind and punched and kicked repeatedly while on the ground.

The thief took money from the man's wallet, along with tools from the shed.

The man was sent to hospital to treat a severe bruise to the left eye, abrasions and bruising to the face.

The only description the police have of the suspect is a caucasian male wearing a horizontally stripped rugby shirt. A ballcap was left behind and is being treated as evidence, according RCMP spokesperson Sgt. Max Fossum.

A mid-1990s blue diesel pickup truck was also spotted idling in the area.

"It's a good reminder for everybody to lock their doors and if you do interrupt a break and enter, don't chase. Call the police," Fossum said.

Police are asking anyone with information on this crime to call West Shore RCMP at 250-474-2264, or to remain anonymous, call Crimestoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
