Explosions afoot at Rocky Point in Metchosin

Be aware there could be some loud booms in the air in Metchosin.

The Fleet Diving Unit will conduct administrative destruction at the Rocky Point Destruction Range between Pedder Bay and Beecher Bay Oct. 2 to 4 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

This involves the planned destruction of materials that need to be disposed of and is not a training exercise, said Capt. Jenn Jackson, base public affairs officer at CFB Esquimalt. B次元官网网址淭hese planned distractions may include explosive materials that have reached the end of their effective life,B次元官网网址 Jackson explained. Planned destructions like this one take place periodically as required, she added. Local residents may notice an increase in noise in the surrounding areas while the range is in use.

The public is reminded that no unauthorized person may enter the area, and trespassing is prohibited. In the unlikely event that stray ammunition or explosive objects are encountered, do not pick up or keep the objects as souvenirs. Notify local police immediately to arrange for disposal.
