Emergency Response Team (ERT) deployed in Bear Mountain

A report of a domestic assault at a home on Bear Mountain last week led to the deployment of the Emergency Response Team and potential charges against a Langford man.

West Shore RCMP officers arrived at a home in the 2200-Block of Players Dr. in Langford at 9:30 p.m. on Oct. 21. They discovered a female resident was safe, but the alleged male suspect was still on the scene.

Initial information indicated a weapon may have been involved, so out of concern for the public and the suspect himself, police set up a containment area around the residence and deployed the Emergency Response Team.

Team members entered a separate basement suite in the home, evacuating tenants there before entering the upper level at approximately 4 a.m., only to find it empty.

Further investigation revealed the suspect had gone to a local hotel. Police obtained a search warrant for his room and entered at 8 a.m., arresting him without incident.

Police were recommending charges against a 47-year-old Langford man related to assault and threats.
