Strong Arctic outflow winds and snow are set to hit Victoria Friday, according to Environment Canada.

A wind and weather warning has been issued for Greater Victoria over predictions of snow and strong winds gusting to 90 km/h that may cause damage.

Periods of snow over the South Coast are expected on Friday, with most areas receiving two to four centimetres.

The wind will develop late Friday in Howe Sound and Fraser Valley as Arctic air pushes southwards across the south coast. These winds will begin to affect Greater Victoria, southern Gulf Islands, and southeastern Metro Vancouver starting Friday evening.

By Friday night and early Saturday, some areas over eastern Vancouver Island, Greater Victoria and the Southern Gulf Islands could see higher amounts locally from snowsquall activity.

These areas will experience damaging winds, cold wind chill values and localized reduced visibilities in blowing snow.

The strong winds will persist on Saturday and will diminish on Sunday morning.
