End in sight for Island Highway roadwork

The final road paving on Island Highway is scheduled for this weekB´ÎÔª¹ÙÍøÍøÖ·”but not during the Canucks games.

Paving days begin at 6 a.m. and on game nightsB´ÎÔª¹ÙÍøÍøÖ·”Wednesday and FridayB´ÎÔª¹ÙÍøÍøÖ·”work will wrap up at 3 p.m. to give crews time to get home in time for the 5 p.m. puck drop. On Thursday work will continue to 7 p.m. and an additional paving day was added on Saturday, 6 a.m. to 7 p.m., to finish the job.

Traffic delays are expected to be particularly lengthy during paving and using an alternate route is advised.

The following week will be the final stretch of single-lane alternating traffic along the roadway, as in-road sensors for traffic signals are installed and lane markings painted.

The work is weather-dependent, but if the sun keeps shining the road will be re-opened to two-lane traffic on June 17. Work on an artistic rock wall and some landscaping in Portage Park will continue after that date.
