The future of prime waterfront property in Metchosin is the subject of ongoing discussion.
The Department of National Defence confirmed that the DND no longer has an operational requirement for 178 hectares of land and eight buildings in the Mary Hill area of Metchosin, northwest of Pedder Bay.
B次元官网网址淲e are currently evaluating options for the best possible transfer or sale of this land,B次元官网网址 said DND spokesperson Jessica Lamirande. A portion of the property, a former range and training area for Canadian Forces Esquimalt, is still required as a safety perimeter for the nearby ammunition depot.
DND is focusing investments on properties that meet operational needs and consolidating assets with similar functions to make effective use of space and land as part of its B次元官网网址渟trong, secure and engagedB次元官网网址 defence policy, Larimande said. That will include the transfer and sale of surplus properties and the demolition of obsolete buildings that are beyond repair.
B次元官网网址淎s part of this process, we are analyzing the [Mary Hill] property and will consult with Indigenous groups, other levels of government and the community to ensure we fully consider their interests before making a final decision. Discussions with Indigenous groups are underway.B次元官网网址
