Cyclists, pedestrians protected along Millstream Road

Work on bike lanes underway on busy stretch of road

New bike lanes along Millstream Road between Treanor Avenue and Bear Mountain Parkway are well into construction, a project helped by a $38,091 BikeBC grant.

B次元官网网址淚tB次元官网网址檚 important to improve pedestrian and cycling safety in this section of the road,B次元官网网址 said Michelle Mahovlich, City of Langford director of engineering. B次元官网网址淲hen we fund by grant, we are also saving taxpayers money.B次元官网网址

The city applied for grants for three sections of road and secured one. The Millstream section in particular, a stretch with a lot of industrial traffic, would benefit cyclists the most, Mahovlich said.

Langford is matching the provincial infrastructure grant for the project, which is seeing bike lanes created on both sides of the road. As well, certain sections of the busy road are being widened to accommodate both bike and motor vehicle traffic.

The BikeBC grant was one of 16 totalling $1.18 million that were given to 13 communities across the province and earmarked for cycling lanes, trails and paths.

B次元官网网址淐onstruction started the second week of August and we are hoping to get it mostly done by the end of September,B次元官网网址 Mahovlich said. B次元官网网址淚B次元官网网址檓 looking forward to getting it done.B次元官网网址

The only other CRD community to secure one of the grants was Salt Spring Island ($60,000).
