CRD bylaw ramps up regional park patrols

People sipping beer at a park, or dog owners letting Fido run free at the beach will fall under the scrutiny of stepped-up summer enforcement in regional parks.

People sipping beer at a park, or dog owners letting Fido run free at the beach will fall under the scrutiny of stepped-up summer enforcement in regional parks.

As in years past, Capital Regional District bylaw officers will be deployed in greater numbers on hot, sunny days.

Until Sept. 15, dogs can no longer stay at designated beach or picnic areas, and must be leashed when passing through.

Alcohol was the No. 1 park infraction in 2010. Of the 9,800 infractions logged, 65 per cent were alcohol infractions. This occurred most commonly at Thetis Lake. This year, the fine for consuming alcohol in the park or on the trails has increased to $50.

If the public witnesses a park violation, they are asked to write it down and report it to the CRD at 250-478-3344.
