Construction is set to begin next week on building the new two-lane bridge on Gillespie Road at Roche Cove.

The bridge replacement project is part of the announced improvements to Highway 14.

The $4.3-million project will replace the current single-lane bridge, built in 1928, on an improved road alignment, with 1.5-metre paved shoulders for pedestrians and cyclists to cross safely.

B次元官网网址淕illespie Road is an important link for people in Sooke, those accessing parks, lodges and other recreational spots, and is a critical alternate route when the highway is closed,B次元官网网址� said Transporation Minister Claire Trevena in a press release.

During construction, the ministry of transportation asks that people be patient, obey traffic control and watch for workers, as there are expected delays of up to 20 minutes Mondays to Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Traffic delays are not expected to affect Sooke Road, only those travelling along Gillespie Road.
