The City of Colwood presented Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medals to nine residents on Monday night in recognition of their service to the community.

The recipients are: Geoff Amy, Garry and Lynette Cook, Lyall Erickson, Marnie Essery, Michael McBride, Beth Mitchell, Cindy Moyer and Joe Richardson.
Metchosin teacher gets nod
Education Minister Don McRae presented Laura Verhoeven with the QueenB次元官网网址檚 Diamond Jubilee Medal in
recognition of her service to the public education system in B.C.
Verhoeven teaches a sustainable resource class at the
Metchosin Technical Centre of Pacific
Secondary school.
She is a recent Canadian recipient of the Amgen Award for Science Teaching Excellence. Verhoeven has been teaching five years.
One recipient heads to Ottawa
Dr. Lenora Marcellus, a Colwood resident, received the Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal from the Governor General at Rideau Hall in Ottawa. Marcellus, an assistant professor at the University of Victoria, received the award in recognition of her work in the field of neonatal care.
Posthumous recognition
The provincial and federal governments have awarded hundreds of QueenB次元官网网址檚 Diamond Jubilee Medals in B.C., but one handed out last week was particularly poignant. Architect Nick Bawlf, who was well-known in Victoria for his work restoring downtown heritage buildings, was awarded his medal posthumously. Accepting the medal for Bawlf, who died last August, was longtime partner and fellow heritage advocate, Victoria Coun. Pamela Madoff.
The QueenB次元官网网址檚 Diamond Jubilee Medal was created to mark the 2012 celebrations of the 60th anniversary of Her MajestyB次元官网网址檚 accession to the throne. Recipients have made a significant contribution to a province, territory, region or community.
