Car fires add to busy weekend for Langford Fire Rescue

Two cars caught fire in Langford under suspicious circumstances during a busy weekend for Langford Fire Rescue.

A Chevy Cavalier was found engulfed in flames in the bush near Kelly Road and the Galloping Goose trail at Veterans Memorial Parkway, just after midnight Saturday.

B次元官网网址淭he only thing left was the engine compartment,B次元官网网址 said Lieut. Chris Aubrey. B次元官网网址淭here was considerable damage.B次元官网网址

It remains unclear if the car was stolen or abandoned during a police incident, but no one was around to answer questions. West Shore RCMP didnB次元官网网址檛 respond to a request for information by the 骋补锄别迟迟别B次元官网网址檚 deadline.

A few hours after Langford firefighers quashed that car fire and subsequent brush fire, they were called to a townhouse complex at 731 Station Ave.

Flames roaring from the engine compartment and front end of a Mazda 3 were threatening to ignite a bush. Fortunately someone had pushed the car away from the building.

Langford fire inspector Lance Caven agreed that cars B次元官网网址渢ypically do notB次元官网网址 spontaneously catch fire at 2:30 a.m.

Fire investigators say the car fires are suspicious but arenB次元官网网址檛 prepared to call them acts of arson. They are trying to rule out accidental causes and check if the respective vehicles are under recall orders.

A third car fire on Langvista Drive on Sunday morning, an Audi, is not considered suspicious. The owner extinguished the engine fire before crews arrived.

Also over the weekend, fire crews helped an injured hiker off Mount Finlayson and assisted  B.C. Ambulance crews with a young man who was badly injured in a mountain bike crash behind Happy Valley school.
