A candlelight tribute to those lost in the battle at Vimy Ridge in the First World War 98 years ago will take place Thursday evening (April 9) at Veteran's Memorial Park in Langford.
Veterans, cadets, Girl Guides and Scouts will participate in ceremony, which is open to the public to attend. The group will march from the Royal Canadian Legion on Station Avenue starting at 7:45 p.m., with introductions and the signing of "O Canada" about five minutes later.
Following a prayer led by Padre Cecil Kleu and the singing of "This Little Light of Mine" by the assembled group of Guides, Brownies, Sparks, Pathfinders, Beavers, Cubs, Scouts and Rovers, the placing of candles will happen on and around the cenotaph.
Royal Canadian Legion Prince Edward Branch #91 president Norm Scott, escorted by Girl Guide Alycia Caloren, will place the wreath marking the anniversary at roughly 8:30 p.m.
