BMW with stolen plates hits van head-on Wednesday morning

Driver flees the scene, leaving injured girl behind

The driver of a sports car involved in a head-on crash Wednesday morning bolted from the scene and abandoned a teenaged girl in the car with serious injuries.

According to eyewitness reports, a grey BMW travelling east on Sooke Road near Glen Lake Road in Langford crossed the centre line during the early morning commute and collided with a west-bound Econoline van.

The driver of the sports car B´ÎÔª¹ÙÍøÍøÖ·“ found later to have stolen vehicle plates B´ÎÔª¹ÙÍøÍøÖ·“ fled the scene, leaving behind his 15-year-old passenger with serious injuries. The man was pursued by a number of witnesses, but eventually eluded them, said West Shore RCMP Cpl. Kathy Rochlitz.

"We are seeking a Caucasian male in his early 30s, between five feet five inches and five feet seven, with short, dirty blond hair, a poor complexion and teeth in noticeably poor condition," Rochlitz told the Gazette as the paper was heading to press Wednesday.

The girl left behind in the BMW was taken to Victoria General Hospital and has been connected with her family, she added.

The van driver suffered undetermined, but non life-threatening injuries.

Traffic on Sooke Road was rerouted for more than an hour Wednesday morning after the crash.
