Drivers now have access to more eyes on the Malahat and on the highway to Sooke B次元官网网址� where traffic is frequently held up by rush hour, construction and crashes B次元官网网址� with the installation of five new DriveBC webcams.

Of the new webcams, four have been installed on the Malahat and one has been installed on Highway 14 near Sooke. The cameras allow drivers to view highway conditions, traffic, and weather information.

Two of the cameras on the Malahat were placed at Aspen Road, one facing north and one south, and the other two were placed at Tunnel Hill.

The four cameras were originally installed for use in a construction project related to Malahat improvements. The project team used the cameras to monitor traffic and conditions in order to adjust to events or delays caused by the construction. With the project complete, the cameras were transitioned for use with DriveBC, going live on Jan.14.

B次元官网网址淗ighway 1 along the Malahat is one of the busier routes, coming and going to the Victoria area, and weather conditions can change near the summit; public feedback to DriveBC demonstrated a desire for current information on weather conditions and traffic flow,B次元官网网址� said Danielle Pope, a spokesperson for the Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure.

On Highway 14 near Sooke, a camera already existed at Lazzar Road looking west, but a new one was added on Dec. 5 showing the view east.
