TERRACE, B.C. 芒鈧珺次元官网网址 A man who helped save a family from a house fire in northwestern British Columbia is now one of nine recruits to the fire department in Terrace.
James Giles has previous work experience in emergency response but was acting as a Good Samaritan last October when he rushed to help after spotting flames shooting from the home in Terrace, about 150 kilometres east of Prince Rupert.
Giles says he was impressed by the effective response of the firefighters and was moved to apply when the department launched a recruitment drive.
"I think it's a tight-knit group that it's going to be a pleasure to be a part of," says Giles.
He passed the required fitness test and joins eight others training to become volunteer members of the fire department.
Chief John Klie says the new additions will boost the volunteer component of the department to 26 members, backing up its 10 full-time firefighters.
Mayor Carol Leclerc says the city is lucky to have individuals like Giles volunteering their time. (CJFW)
