Canada's Streifel tops U.S. 9-3 to reach Page playoff 3-4 game at world juniors

Streifel reaches 3-4 game at world juniors

GANGNEUNG, Korea, Republic Of 芒鈧珺次元官网网址 Canada's Kristen Streifel defeated Annmarie Dubberstein of the United States 9-3 on Thursday to lock up a berth in the Page playoff 3-4 game at the world junior curling championship.

Streifel and her Edmonton-based team opened with a deuce and had a 6-1 lead after four ends at the Gangneung Curling Centre. The teams shook hands after eight ends.

"I'm really proud of the girls for their performance and all we could do was win this game and see how the cards fall," Streifel said. "Our first goal was to qualify for playoffs and now we can take a deep breath and settle in and get ready to play a few more games."

Canada will play the winner of Friday's tiebreaker between South Korea and Switzerland. Scotland and Sweden will play in the Page 1-2 game.

In men's play, Canada's Tyler Tardi dropped a 9-8 decision to Scotland's Cameron Bryce in an extra end.

Tardi and his B.C. team from Langley/New Westminster will play a tiebreaker against Norway's Magnus Ramsfjell on Friday with the winner to play Scotland in the Page 3-4 game.

South Korea will play the United States in the Page 1-2 game.

The medal games are scheduled for Sunday.
