The Juan de Fuca Whalers U15 box lacrosse team has clinched their first provincial lacrosse championship, after a hard-fought game against the Ridge Meadows Burrards.
The game on Sunday, July 7 began with a Ridge Meadows goal early in the first period. After 10 minutes, Juan de Fuca came back with a bang, scoring their first goal in what would be an 11-3 victory.
Despite Juan de FucaB次元官网网址檚 eight-point lead, head coach Jordan Waters says the win was no easy feat. Ridge MeadowsB次元官网网址 coach Curt Malawksy is also the general manager and head coach of the famed Vancouver Warriors, a professional National Lacrosse League (NLL) team.
B次元官网网址淗eB次元官网网址檚 probably one of the best coaches in all of Canada, if not North America,B次元官网网址 Waters said. B次元官网网址淲henever you play against a coach of that caliber, no matter what the score is, you always have to stay calm and make sure your team is always ready to go.B次元官网网址
Waters is proud of how his team handled that pressure.
B次元官网网址淢y goalie Chase Dixon-Liddle was phenomenal and showed that heB次元官网网址檚 probably the best goalie in B.C.,B次元官网网址 he said, adding that team captain Findlay Cooper received the provincial Most Valuable Player award. B次元官网网址淭hen there was Max Schuman, who scored three goals for the team and sparked our big league.B次元官网网址
Juan de FucaB次元官网网址檚 comradery, inside and outside of the lacrosse box, played a role in the teamB次元官网网址檚 success this year.
B次元官网网址淪omething that I always preach, but that I didnB次元官网网址檛 think would come to fruition, was the brotherhood we created," added Waters. "We always play for each other, with each other.B次元官网网址
The coach hopes the teamB次元官网网址檚 fresh provincial finals experience will help them next season.
B次元官网网址淣ow that weB次元官网网址檝e won our first [provincial], the dominoes will fall, and we should win hopefully the next one."
